I love French! It is a beautiful language. It seems to flow so well and sound so melodic that is is a pleasure to learn. I have been speaking some French since I was a child. One of my parents grew up in a French speaking culture.
One of the things that I love about knowing French is that you develop a fundamental understanding of of other languages. I often will recognize written Spanish or Italian phrases and be able to understand the essence of what is being communicated without actually knowing the other languages.
I think one of the hardest concepts for English speakers to grasp is that there are masculine and feminine words in the French, and many other, languages and that knowing which is which changes the way that the language is spoken or written.
It is definitely worth the effort.
