Language Learning Surveys

With these language learning surveys I hope to gather as much information as possible about how people learn languages, what they find difficult, what they find easy, what kind of experiences they've had and how we can best learn from each others experiences. Rather than get this information from books and government reports, I'd prefer to get it directly from language learners.

I'm inviting visitors to this site to participate and fill out a survey or two to share your experiences learning languages. It will only take a minute and won't cost you anything more than that. Feel free to look over the results of each survey and possibly gain some insights into how other people have fared with their language learning experiences.

The Most Beautiful Language Survey This is the newest survey added to the site. Everyone has an opinion on which languages sound and look beautiful. I'd like to hear yours.

The Hardest Language to Learn Survey What do you think is the hardest language to learn? Of course, this is highly subjective, and personal experience has the greatest influence on how you feel about this, but I'd like to know what you think. I remember a discussion on this topic on Phrasebase that got pretty heated. Everyone has an opinion, and whether you've had experience studying languages or not, please tell me what you think. The survey has a simple multiple choice for the most commonly studied 'difficult languages' but there is also a write-in section for you to include something less common. Most importantly, there is space for you to say why you find something difficult.

The Easiest Language to Learn Survey Is there one language that's easier to learn than any other? Just like 'difficult' languages, this is dependent on a lot of factors, and many of them vary from person to person. But overall, some languages seem to be easier to learn than others. Fill out this simple form and lend me your two cents opinion.

I recently wrote an article on how languages are different and how that affects how we learn them. Click here to read What Makes One Language Harder or Easier to Learn Than Another?

Language Learning Experiences Survey If you have ever studied a language before, I'd like to hear some of your experiences. What worked for you, what didn't etc. Even if you haven't studied before, there are some questions in this survey about how and why you are studying now. Help me gather some information about language learners and please fill out this survey.

Ever wonder what the top 10 languages are? I know, that's a strange question. But several years ago, a study was done ranking world languages relative to each other. The criteria used were regional influence, economic and diplomatic importance, the number of native speakers, the number of speakers as a second language, and other factors. Not surprisingly, English was ranked number one overall, but it's some of the conclusions reached about some other languages that are most interesting, like which are gaining in importance and which are losing ground. If you are interested, you can read this article here.

Interested in more than just a survey? If you'd like to contribute a review of a language website or language learning product, or if you'd like to share some of your language learning experiences and learning tips, then go to the Visitors Center!
