Learn Hungarian! Spoken in and around Hungary and in pockets in cities of Europe and the US, this unusual and challenging language has been of interest to linguists for centuries.
It is from a completely different language tree than the other languages of Europe (it is only distantly related to Finnish), and so has little in common with them and can sound very foreign to a native speaker of English. It is often regarded as a very difficult language to learn, but is equally considered a rich and rewarding language for those who wish to learn it!
Although there have been few resources to learn Hungarian, the situation has been improving.

FSI Language Courses
FSI is one of the most comprehensive learning methods available. You can download FSI Hungarian for free at the site linked to in the title. There are 24 units in two volumes and an extensive graded reader. The material is a little old, but very comprehensive. For the price, you won't find a better way to learn Hungarian!

Teach Yourself Hungarian
Teach Yourself makes courses for dozens of languages. Each course is tailor made for that language. The coursebook comes with two audio cd's for listening to the dialogues. This is probably the least expensive and most extensive course for learning Hungarian, if you work diligently through it.

This inexpensive software program to learn Hungarian is a great tool to have in your arsenal. Lots of vocabulary and phrases, dialogues, audio from native speakers, games and activities and much more to get you started on your path to learn Hungarian.
Pimsleur Comprehensive Hungarian I
Pimsleur Hungarian Comprehensive Level 1 is a brand-new addition to the Pimsleur line. Pimsleurs all-audio format is a great introduction to the language, and with it you'll develop a better accent and conversation ability than with any other published language method.
