My Experience With Pimsleur

My husband, son, and I were planning a three week trip to France. We were excited to visit our daughter, her husband and our 2 year old grandson. To get a jump start on the French language, I decided that we should order a language program. After some research, I chose the Pimsleur Approach.
There were two main reasons for this decision. First, the cost was right. I did not want to spend a small fortune. I got the program for about $60.00. I thought that compared to some of the other programs out there, this was a good price. The other reason was after taking a short tour of what I was going to order, I thought that this program was what I wanted.
Overall, I was not impressed with my purchase. I knew that the accent was good because I had previously been to France several times so I am familiar with how the language sounds. The problem I had with it was the choice of conversations. I did not think that they were helpful or very appropriate. For example, one conversation was for a situation in which you would meet another person in a park. 'Are you an American? Do you speak English?' Why would I ask those questions? If I saw someone in the park, I would speak English if I wanted to know this. I would assume they would either speak English back to me or shrug and say no.
Based on my experience, I'm not sure that I would purchase Pimsleur products again.
